  6.     Riding on Rosinante where the cars
  7.     With dismal unremitting clangors pass,
  8.     And people move like curbless energumens
  9.     Rowelled by fiends of fury back and forth,
  10.     Behold! Quixote comes, in battered mail,
  11.     Armgaunt, with eyes of some keen haggard hawk
  12.     Far from his eyrie. Gazing right and left,
  13.     Over his face a lightning of disdain
  14.     Flushes, and limns the hollowness of cheeks
  15.     Bronzed by the suns of battle; and his hand
  16.     Tightens beneath its gauntlet on the lance
  17.     As if some foe had challenged him, or sight
  18.     Of unredressed wrong provoked his ire.....

  20.     Brave spectre, what chimera shares thy saddle,
  21.     Pointing thee to this place? Thy tale is told,
  22.     The high. proud legend of all causes lost-
  23.     A quenchless torch emblazoning black ages.
  24.     Go hence, deluded paladin: there is
  25.     No honor here, nor glory, to be won.
  26.     Knight of La Mancha, turn thee to the past,
  27.     Amid it's purple marches ride for aye,
  28.     Nor tilt with thunder-driven iron mills
  29.     That shall grind on to silence. Chivalry
  30.     Has flown to stars unsooted by the fumes
  31.     That have befouled these heavens, and romance
  32.     Departing, will unfurl her oriflammes
  33.     On towers unbuilded in an age to be.
  34.     Waste not thy knightliness in wars unworthy,
  35.     For time and his alastors shall destroy
  36.     Full soon, and bring to stuffless, cloudy ruin
  37.     All things that fret thy spirit, riding down
  38.     This pass with pandemonian walls, this Hinnom
  39.     Where Moloch and where Mammon herd the doomed.
